The Department of Educational Administration and Planning held a one-day seminar on Proposal writing for doctoral students on the 2nd of October 2015 at the CEES Library boardroom. The aim of this seminar was to train doctoral students on how to write  and submit research proposals. Students had the opportunity to interact with faculty to get guidance on how to structure academic writing to meet the University of Nairobi set guidelines.

The workshop was designed to take students through an overview of the research process and provide them with key information about academic writing from topic selection to successful submission of final project. Various presenters from the department gave detailed presentations on the following topics:

  • Literature search using University of Nairobi subscribed e-sources by College Librarian, Mr.Peter Matanji.
  • Research problem identification by Dr Daizy P. Matula and  Dr Mari Nelson
  • Literature review: presentation and plagiarism by Dr Lucy Njagi and Dr Jeremiah M. Kalai
  • Possible topics in Curriculum studies by Dr Rosemary Imonje.
  • Possible topics in Educational Administration by Dr. Ursula A. Okoth
  • Possible topics in Educational Planning by Dr Ibrahim Khatete
  • Possible topics in Economics of Education by Dr Loise Gichuhi
  • Research methodology (Qualitative data analysis)  by Dr Ibrahim Khatete
  • Data analysis techniques (Quantitative data analysis) by Dr Ibrahim Khatete
  • Data analysis, interpretation and discussion (Chapter Four ) Summary, conclusions and recommendations(Chapter Five) by Dr. Lucy Njagi

 The seminar was attended by about 10 students pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Nairobi.
